"In Russia, you can only believe."

Here's a whole mess of things from Russia. Translations will be provided upon request.

New Years is on 1 Jan.
Old New Years is on 14 Jan.

Moscow State University started Tatyana's Day (students day) (January 24) by giving out free beer. They no longer do this.

Many traditions were outlawed in Soviet times, so now they're making a comeback.

"Economists run the world." ~ Marx

It is currently colder in Upland, Indiana, than in Nizhnii Novgorod, Russia.

Siberia is where the mineral wealth of Russia is located, but there are still poor people here because every country needs a diversified economy.

Permafrost: the top layer of soil is always frozen.

Someday I'm making a pilgrimage to Kiev to see the Cyril and Methodius monument.

Stalin tried to build the world's tallest building on the cite of the Church of Christ the Saviour, but BOG interveined.

My fortune was told by Russian folk singers: I will have good travels.

I'm not sure if Nikon was right... anyway now Old Believers live in Alaska. Oh Avvakum.

Ukraine means "at the end," so don't ever refer to it as "The Ukraine"

I'm trying to figure out what "patristic," "cataphic," and "conciliar," mean.

In Russia, the Little Engine That Could, probably couldn't.

Relationships are messy.

Friendship is spelled T-I-M-E.

Dress up- go out, dress down- stay in.

Learning to dream again vs. What's the point?

Saving face, privacy, and time. They're different here.

Experiencial freedom from sin. Sin is cancelled, now what?

Salvation is the process of healing.

"If I have to choose between truth and Jesus Christ, I choose Jesus Christ." ~ Fyodor Dostoevsky

Interesting. I'm imagining these all simultaneously going off like fireworks in your head all the time. Isn't it neat how just a change of location can be so stimulating?

'Patristic' is used in the Historic class to describe the first age of the church. It's 100-451 A.D. if I remember correctly. As for the others, I dunno. Of course, if 'patristic' is spelled the same way in Russian but means something different, then completely ignore me.

Good to hear from you. Its odd not to read posts every other day anymore. Little bit of interesting trivia. Find out what the Eastern Orthodox cross means. It's interesting and worth knowing. I'm headed to Uganda tomorrow, so I need to go get some sleep. Have a great semester.
